Meet Dr. Trudy Bonvino

Cosmopolitan Orthodontics was founded on the principal of enhancing smiles and lives though advanced science, technology, and art. With this in mind, Dr. Trudy Bonvino ensures each patient achieves an aesthetically pleasing, stable, and radiant smile to grow their self-esteem and the confidence with which they greet the world.

Dr. Bonvino and her team create incredible smiles for patients of all ages. “What’s unique about our practice is we can focus on care anywhere from the youngest kids through adult complicated cases.” Dr. Bonvino has a background in prosthodontics and enjoys collaborating with other dentists on restorative cases for complex adult treatments. “It’s fulfilling working in a team dynamic where we are developing the plan that will restore someone’s smile if they are missing teeth or if there is a functional problem.”

Dr. Bonvino has always had a strong interest in art and science and was drawn to orthodontics at an early age when she had her own treatment at the U of M clinic. She realized then that orthodontics combined her two passions, and she could serve the community by helping people look and feel their best with their new smile. She completed her Bachelor of Science, Doctorate of Dental Surgery, and Orthodontic Residency at the University of Minnesota. “I got involved with orthodontics right out my residency and have been practicing for more than 20 years. Even after all this time, I still find it fun and rewarding! Our team has a heart of service, we are passionate about what we do and treat our patients like family.”

Dr. Bonvino actively pursues many continuing education conferences and lectures for herself and her team to stay at the forefront of new techniques and technologies. Some of her specialties include dentofacial orthopedics, fixed appliances (braces), clear aligner therapy (Invisalign®), and airway-centric orthodontics.

She is a two-time Undergraduate Research Opportunity Award recipient. She also received the Pierre Fauchard Award for Clinical Excellence, an American Cancer Society Award, and has been honored by the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Society for Academic Achievement.

Beyond the Practice

When she’s not creating beautiful smiles, Dr. Bonvino can often be found cheering for her friends and family at many sporting events, especially for her alma mater, the Gophers! She is also an avid gardener and loves to cook.
